A Few Thoughts at the End of January

Well now — January has been a long one. After the rush of Christmas and New Year, it always seems to drag itself out, and by the end of it most people are fairly worn out by the whole thing. Not miserable exactly — just ready for it to be over.

It does feel, though, like people are starting to shake themselves down at last. There’s a bit more steadiness about them. A bit more headspace. And a sense that 2026 is finally beginning to take shape, rather than just being something we’re talking about.

Yvette and I have been chatting to some really lovely singles over the past few weeks. Some here at home, and some across the Atlantic in the States. And honestly, the conversations have been very similar wherever people are — a mix of tiredness after January, and a quiet curiosity about what the year might hold.

People are keen to get back out there, but they’re also a bit more thoughtful about it. There’s less rushing, less noise. More reflection. More honesty about what they’re actually ready for, and what they’re not. That feels like a good place to be.

January has a way of making people think — sometimes too much — but by the end of it, there’s usually a small lift. A sense that things are moving again, slowly but surely.

And that’s enough for now.

— Jacqui & Yvette
